HOW TO CLEAN SILVER & SILVER PLATE

I had a comment from Melanie left on my blog today. She said she passes on silver because she doesn't know how to care for it! Well I say "NEVER pass on silver at a good price! Plated or real." It is so easy to clean and care for. And you can use it all the time. I use "Weiman Royal Sterling Silver Polish" liquid cleaner found in the cleaning supply section at Publix. It is non abrasive and cleans like a charm. All you do is put the cleaner on the soft cotton cloth, rub the tarnished areas, wash in soapy water, rinse, then buff dry to a beautiful shine. To keep it clean- use it! Or keep it wrapped in soft cotton fabric that has not been dried with fabric softner. Also, NEVER put it in the dishwasher. See- it's so easy!!!! So go hunting today and Never, ever pass up a good deal on silver again!
Before & After's (I actually found some with "C" on it- for Carter)

Plated Silver Great Finds

I was "window" shopping at a local Antiques shop in town this past week and ran across a "must have". I found a basket full of plated silverware for less than $5.00 for the entire basket full! There isn't a full place setting of anything really but there were 2 sets of Tea Spoons- Ice tea spoons that is. They were dirty & black, but I knew how beautiful they would be with a little elbow grease & I was right. All together there are 46 pieces. I don't know how each will be used, but I don't care about that right now. So do you think I got a great buy or what?

CORNED BEEF & CABBAGE

Well we had a delicious dinner last night of corned beef & cabbage. It has been a long time since I have made this. (We had cottage pie last St. Patrick's) Anyway, I don't know if it was the brand of meat or just that I cooked it in the crock this year, but this was by far one of the most tender corned beef brisket I can remember. I threw in potatoes, a vidallia onion and carrots nothing else and it was sooooo good. I hope everyone had fun and good eats for St Patrick's!

#4 and Final Post for Today

CUP CAKES- YUMMM! These are actually the bite size..... so I don't feel too guilty about downing 3 at once! LOL!!!

Post #3 for St Patty's Day- LUCK OF THE IRISH

Believe it or not I found these in my back yard. These are actually quite small compaired to the ones that I usually find. For the past several years I have had large patches of clover containing huge 4 leafed clovers! But they are usually found only in the Summer months. How fun that I found these on St. Patrick's Day! If you look close at the one on the top, you'll see that it is actually a 5 leafed clover. Wonder what that means?

Post #2 Today- St. Patty's Day

I don't really have a teapot or cup for many of the holidays, but I really wanted one for today. So.........I made my own! I knew I could draw and so I took a permanent marker and went to town on my white dishes! I know it looks childish, but hey for today it's PERFECT! Good thing is it will eventually wash off.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY! Now back to the cupcakes!

Beannachtai na Feile Padraig! (Happy St. Patrick's Day)

We'll have a good dinner here tonight of Cornbeef, cabbage, carrots & onion stew with Rye Bread & sweet Irish butter, and Guiness Chocolate Cupcakes w/ Ganache Icing

Even if all the silver doesn't match!

And since I'm out of Irish Breakfast- Scottish Afternoon will have to do and later today I'll bake some Blarney Scones!

So Happy St. Patrick's Day to all and I'll leave you with this: May the road rise to meet you, May the wind be at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face. May the rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, Until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

My Green Room

This is for my dear, sweet friend Angela. (I love you Angela!!!!)

TEA TINS & ART

While exploring all kind of new foods at the USFood Service food show this week, I found a company that I was only vaguely familiar with. So, I started thumbing through their catalogue and near the end found an exciting array of teas from China. I got excited for a few minutes thinking of all the new teas I would try until I noticed that of course you have to buy them by the case load! (Too much) But I brought home the cataloge anyway to share the beautiful artwork with you. I hope that you can see them. It was hard getting good pictures with the flash.

Childhood Treasures

There are many things in our childhood that we have fond memories of. And there are things that you just see day after day as a child and never think twice about them. But, then much later in life they become more valuable than money. This is one of those things. This embroidered piece was always in our home growing up. I can't ever remember it not being somewhere in our house. But I never really paid attention to it until we sold mom's house about three years ago. When I saw it, I grabbed it to take home with me. I stored it away for proper cleaning and repairs and forgot about it. And just last week I rediscovered it and was thrilled. So, I have lovingly repaired and cleaned it. I must tell you, I absolutely LOVE it. My mom told me once that she made it when she and daddy were first married. It didn't mean much then, but I will cherish it now forever!

Mexican Coffee Cup

I bought this cup several months back while in Puerto Vallarta and have been saving it as a gift for my Mom in Law. BUT since she has declined the last few invitations to visit, I have grown a bit fond of it. I enjoyed a nice cup of coffee in it this morning. My friend Patty Gironda of (HomeAtLast .com) makes her own coffee and I had it this morning- very good too I must say. Anyway back to the cup. I thought it would be a nice tea cup, but I think it is too bulky for tea and it just feels more like a coffee cup, so sorry Mom- but I think I'm going to keep it!

I'M IN PRINT!

I just went to the mailbox this morning to get the mail and was thrilled to see the newest copy of our local magazine that our blogging buddy Angela of "Tea With Friends" is the editor of. They do a feature article each publication on local cooks and I was the cook this time! I must admit the photographer Bob Fraley did a pretty good job of not letting me look so fat! I was very pleased with the article that Janet Flanigan wrote as well. If you are local please stop by any local store in the area and pick up a copy Newnan-Coweta Magazine or go to www.newnancowetamagazine.com. There are a lot of great and beautiful features this time (as always.) We're very lucky in this town to have such a great & professional local magazine. Thanks to everyone there!

FACEBOOK

On the advice of my daughters, I thought I would reopen my face book account. Why!? It is the most aggravating site I have ever been on! Do any of you have problems???? Every time I try to download pictures, update my profile, read a message......I get "Server is not responding!" If I get an opening and start downloading it crashes. So to any of my family and friends that did get my message to visit me here, I have downloaded pictures of my sweet granddaughter Samantha.
Helping her Nana with the dishes- which she loves! Using her yogurt as "lotion Nana!"
Just being an Angel
Helping her mom (just recently engaged) find just the right wedding veil & gown
Thanks for visiting- please visit daily.

MORE SNOW PICTURES

As I took these pictures there were tree limbs breaking on a largepine tree across the street! Ugh!

IT'S SNOWING! ! ! ! ! !

I know all you Northerner's and Midwesterner's are laughing at me right now, but for those of us who live down south snow is a BIG deal! We occasionally get a blanket of snow but the key word is OCCASIONALLY. So, yes this is great & fun & treacherous for us down here. We love it but do not know how to drive in it and we get all excited about snow and rush to the stores the day before like we're going to be snowed in FOREVER and might need milk or bread or tea! Yes, we are funny, but hey you know you love laughing at us and here's just one more thing to laugh about!!! PS it's also thundering and lighting while it's snowing- wierd!!!
