HOW TO CLEAN SILVER & SILVER PLATE

I had a comment from Melanie left on my blog today. She said she passes on silver because she doesn't know how to care for it! Well I say "NEVER pass on silver at a good price! Plated or real." It is so easy to clean and care for. And you can use it all the time. I use "Weiman Royal Sterling Silver Polish" liquid cleaner found in the cleaning supply section at Publix. It is non abrasive and cleans like a charm. All you do is put the cleaner on the soft cotton cloth, rub the tarnished areas, wash in soapy water, rinse, then buff dry to a beautiful shine. To keep it clean- use it! Or keep it wrapped in soft cotton fabric that has not been dried with fabric softner. Also, NEVER put it in the dishwasher. See- it's so easy!!!! So go hunting today and Never, ever pass up a good deal on silver again!
Before & After's (I actually found some with "C" on it- for Carter)

OK - I'm going to bookmark your post so that when I find some, I'll know what to do with it! One more question, though - I've never actually eaten off of real silver, and I have a fear that it feels or tastes bad in your mouth. Does it?

I've never tried Weiman Royal Sterling Silver Polish. I usually use a paste called Wright's Silver Cream. Maybe I'll try the Weiman next time I buy some and do a comparison.

Hi Melanie,
Actually it's just the opposite. I find there is more of a metal taste from regular flatware unless it is all stainless. With the silver you get a much smoother feel as well, I think. So go hunting and let me know about all the great deals you find!

parTea Lady,
I have used Wrights as well but I like the liquid better. But if you do decide to do a comparison side by side, let me know what you think.

Thanks for answering my question! Yes, I was thinking in comparison to stainless - that's usually what I use. I hate silverware that is coarse or tastes!!!

I LOVE POLISHING SILVER. It gives me a sense of control in a chaotic universe.
